| Heat Exchanger "Hi-Panex" |
The development for rotary type total heat
exchanger at Seibu Giken started in 1970. Since that time, receiving the
special subsidy for technological developments from MITI (Ministry of
Int'l Trade & Industry) 6 times in total, we have succeeded in realizing
several important improvements such as selection of the most suitable
material, increasing efficiency, polishing rotor surface, increasing
rotor's physical strength and prevention of rotor deflection.
As a result, total heat exchanger rotors, which are ideal and reliable,
have been released as Hi-Panex series. The production machinery for
honeycomb rotors such as aluminum sheet hygroscopic treatment machines,
corrugation machines, winding machines, surface polishing machines and
so on have also been developed and assembled by us. Therefore, any
honeycomb rotors using a variety of material can be manufactured
according to the customer's requirements.
Then, as adsorbent for latent heat (moisture) exchange, ion exchange
resin, which adsorbs little odor, has been adopted for the first time in
the world. Odor transfer and accumulation is extremely little compared
with a former type using silica gel. In 1998, we developed and
commercialized
"Ion
Power Total Heat Exchanger".
Hi-Panex, total heat exchanger cassette is illustrated in the above
figure. Hi-Panex rotor is rotated slowly at about 16 r.p.m. in the
direction of the arrow. The separator divided the rotor into the exhaust
(R>EA) and the supply (OA>SA)-zones. In other words, supply and exhaust
air flow alternately through the rotor in opposite direction. Almost all
the total heat passing through the exhaust zone is absorbed into the
rotor element. The rotor accumulated with heat is rotated half a turn to
transfer the total-energy to the air of the supply zone on the other
side. Thus, the outdoor air (OA) is taken to the supply air (SA) and the
return air (RA) is exhausted to the exhaust air (EA) while the total
heat (temperature and humidity) energy is fully transferred to the fresh
outdoor air (OA). It can be said, therefore, that the function of this
heat exchanger is to supply the fresh air after bringing it close to the
room air condition when there is a difference in temperature and/or
humidity, and thus save energy. |

| Characteristics of Hi-Panex |
- Excellent corrosion resistance
Ceramic fiber paper as basic materials is prepared for anticorrosive
and anti-salt application. Aluminum set is also treated to be
anticorrosive.
- Washable rotor
- Easy connection & assembling even for the large type
cassette.
- Simple & easy maintenance
Hi-Panex is constructed with thoughtful consideration for easy
periodic checking.
- Prevention of ammonia gas transfer
When the total heat exchanger is operated, a very small quantity of
ammonia gas in the building (from toilet, etc.) passes through the
rotor and could be adsorbed with the rotor, and cross-contaminates. In
order to prevent this, we are employing a special adsorbent which can
only adsorb moisture and pass alkaline gas through into the
atmosphere. So the cross-contamination of ammonia gas in the rotor can
be completely prevented.

| Aluminum total heat exchanger |
| New adsorption material +
anti-bacterial, anti-mold material |
 |
We first commercialized the honeycomb
rotor for total heat exchangers
using aluminum sheet in 1980 as a pioneer. |
|
| Hygroscopic treatment for aluminum
sheet |
| First, the anticorrosive treatment is applied to
the aluminum sheet. Then, the fine powder of inorganic adsorbent is
strongly coated by baking without obstruction the adsorbent's
"respiration". Furthermore, to prevent shedding the inorganic adsorbent
powder, it is also fixed with porous coating materials. Therefore, the
inorganic adsorbent can sufficiently effect adsorbent and desorption.
And thus can provide the rotors with high efficiency. |
 |
| Ceramic total heat exchanger |
| This rotor is suitable for and
actually used at the places such as seashore, indoor swimming pool and
factory where anti-corrosiveness is required. Ceramic fiber paper is
adopted for this rotor and metal silicate is synthesized into the paper
by chemical reactions. We applied a very similar method to SSCR
dehumidifier rotor which is also developed by us. As a result, it has
high efficiency for exchanging latent heat, superiority in
anti-corrosiveness and salt-resistance, and it can be washed by water.
We have had many installations in Japan as well as in overseas
countries. |

SILICA GEL IS NO LONGER THE BEST
DESICCANT.
|
| Total Heat Exchanger, in which the
silica gel adsorption material is firmly affixed to aluminum sheets by
means of high temperature, is being conventionally unitized. In this
case, at conditions of low humidity the adsorbent of the rotor element
has additional adsorption capacity, and therefore adsorbs various kinds
of odors. |
| |
| However, when there is a high humidity
condition in contrast to the above - displacement adsorption takes place
and the adsorbed odor substances are displaced with moisture in the air
by means of high hydrophilic characteristic of silica gel. This is a
mechanism of odor emission from silica gel when used as the adsorbent
for the total heat exchanger. |
| |
| Although we at Seibu Giken have been
preventing the odor problem with total heat exchangers by using a
special silica gel, which relatively speaking, does not emit as much as
other types, the odor problem could not be resolved. |
| |
Since 1993, we changed our approach to
the problem and commenced the development of a new adsorbent type total
heat exchanger and have succeeded in solving the odor cross
contamination problem. (iPatent applied.)

ADDED FEATURE OF ANTI-BACTERIAL AND ANTI-MOLD EFFECTS |
| Mold is not grown in the total heat
exchanger by itself because its material of the heat exchanger is
completely inorganic. However, there is a possibility that mold may be
grown in the total heat exchanger due to the organic substances flowing
from the outside. |
Since we at Seibu Giken have utilized
not only new adsorption material but also anti-bacterial, anti-mold
material, we have successfully countered the odor problem and have
achieved real enhancement of indoor air quality (I.A.Q.) with this new
adsorption type total heat exchanger. New adsorption material?
anti-bacterial, anti-mold material.
